This workshop focuses on Process FMEA in the Healthcare environment. Particular attention will be paid to creating an effective PFMEA by determining which characteristics makeup a good healthcare system. Determining which departments are involved throughout the system. Creating a characteristic matrix with regards to organizational interfaces. Creating the process map from the patient perspective and linking the organizational interfaces to the process map.
FMEA has been used quite successfully in many industries most notably Manufacturing. But FMEA has also had a history of driving prevention in the successful completion of a process. Health Care and more specifically Patient Safety is a major concern as publicity on a few high profile cases where mistakes were made either in the administering of medication or the completion of an incorrect surgical procedure.
FMEA or Failure Mode and Effects Analysis has been utilized since the late 40's for preventing failure, mitigating potential risks and developing control strategies where risk is still present.
The two day course described below is offered specifically around health care needs and the efficient deployment of FMEA for patient Safety. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations has prepared guidelines for the deployment of FMEA in this vital area of need.
